Marking the 70th anniversary of the first official state visit between China and Cambodia, Chinese Ambassador Wang Wenbin said he was honored to welcome Cambodia’s Queen Mother Norodom Monineath to the Chinese Embassy, where they also celebrated the Chinese New Year together. Wang recalled that on February 13, 1956, the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk paid his first official visit to China, opening a new chapter in bilateral relations. The Queen Mother’s visit, he noted, commemorates this historic milestone and reflects the enduring friendship forged by earlier generations of leaders. He pointed to two mango trees in the embassy compound, gifted decades ago by King Father Sihanouk and the Queen Mother, now flourishing with abundant fruit—symbolizing the fruitful partnership built on mutual respect and equality. Wang reaffirmed that China will continue working closely with Cambodia to pass on the baton of their “ironclad friendship” and ensure steady progress in bilateral ties.
