Cambodia is accelerating the rollout of electric vehicle charging infrastructure as EV adoption rises nationwide. Among the country’s 24 provinces and cities, only Oddar Meanchey has yet to establish charging stations, while all other areas have begun deployment.

Speaking at a national power sector review meeting, Minister of Mines and Energy Keo Rattanak said the government plans to further promote electric vehicles in 2026 as part of its zero-emission transport and green development strategy. The Electricity Authority of Cambodia also plans to invest an additional US$10 million to expand charging coverage and improve convenience and energy efficiency.

Local authorities have been urged to open public spaces such as parks and government buildings for charging facilities. The government also intends to launch a unified national EV charging app, integrating existing platforms to simplify usage and provide easier access for residents and travelers from ASEAN countries.

EAC Director General Ye Visay noted that licenses have been granted to 20 investors, covering projects in 17 provinces, with 80 charging stations and 142 chargers already installed. Seven other provinces have stations pending formal approval, leaving Oddar Meanchey as the only province without any facilities.

Data from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport show that 7,971 electric vehicles were newly registered nationwide in 2025, up 127% from 3,508 in 2024, highlighting rapidly growing demand.
