Cambodia is seeing rapid growth in rooftop solar installations. The Electricity Authority of Cambodia reported that 21 solar installation service companies have been licensed, while 1,153 rooftop solar systems have been approved for operation, reaching a combined capacity of 163.59 MWac across small, medium, and large electricity users. Speaking at the annual performance review meeting, EAC Director General Ye Visay said the licensing framework aims to regulate installation and operation standards, safeguard national grid stability, and allocate rooftop solar capacity within the broader power planning framework, while encouraging environmental responsibility among businesses and consumers. He stressed that approvals will continue to follow principles of transparency, fairness, and efficiency, alongside strengthened regulatory oversight to support orderly industry growth. Looking ahead, the authority plans additional measures, including improving user registration systems, upgrading one-stop online application services, and expanding legal and technical training for power suppliers, installers, and users to ensure long-term safety and sustainable development.
