As Lunar New Year approaches, many members of Phnom Penh’s Chinese community have been visiting Wat Phnom to pray for peace and good fortune. Worshippers bring offerings such as oranges, eggs, pork, incense burners, candles, and lotus flowers, hoping for a smooth and safe year ahead. This traditional ritual, commonly known as “removing bad luck,” is believed to help dispel negative energy and attract prosperity for the coming year. A devotee named Yin Mala shared that as of February 15, the number of visitors was slightly lower than in previous years, though families could still be seen arriving together to pray. Wat Phnom remains one of Phnom Penh’s most important spiritual landmarks. During major festivals like Lunar New Year, it continues to draw large crowds seeking blessings, health, and happiness.
