Cambodia’s National Police General Directorate announced on February 3 that nationwide traffic law enforcement will be fully resumed and strengthened starting February 2026, aiming to curb the growing number of road accidents. Authorities explained that over the past 160 days (from July 25 to December 31, 2025), traffic enforcement had been temporarily relaxed due to tensions along the Cambodia–Thailand border. As a result, traffic accidents increased significantly nationwide. Compared with the same period in 2024: Traffic accidents rose by 34 cases (+3%) Deaths increased by 62 (+10%) Injuries increased by 209 (+15%) In January 2026 alone, compared with January 2025: Accidents increased by 42 (+19%) Deaths rose by 25 (+18%) Injuries rose by 64 (+23%) Police identified the main causes of accidents as: Speeding (47%) Failure to yield right of way (21%) Not keeping right (10%) Dangerous overtaking (7%) Dangerous turning (6%) Drunk driving (3%) Running red lights (2%) Vehicle condition, fatigue, and road conditions (each 1%) The National Police stated that the renewed enforcement aims to improve overall road safety, strengthen traffic management, and raise public awareness of traffic laws, minimizing accidents, casualties, and property losses. Starting February 2026, traffic regulations will be strictly enforced nationwide. Drivers are urged to comply with traffic laws to avoid penalties.
