With road accidents continuing to threaten public safety and lives, Cambodia’s land traffic police have decided to resume issuing fines in order to strengthen enforcement of traffic regulations. On the morning of February 15, 2026, Deputy Director of Traffic Police Planning Hing Rotana chaired a meeting to review recent enforcement efforts and outline priorities for the next phase. Officials noted that despite more than six months of traffic safety education and training, accident rates have not shown significant improvement, making stricter measures necessary. Authorities said the decision to reinstate fines has been approved by the Ministry of Interior and the National Police General Directorate. Going forward, police will adopt a combined approach of education and penalties, increasing inspections and crackdowns on violations to improve driver compliance and reduce accidents. Senior officials from the land traffic police department attended the meeting and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening nationwide road safety management.
