The 2026 “Happy Chinese New Year” celebrations officially opened in Phnom Penh on February 6, featuring a special Zhejiang Wu Opera performance. Acting Chargé d’Affaires Jiang Nan of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia and Cambodia’s Minister of Culture and Fine Arts Phorsakna attended the event and delivered remarks.

The Zhejiang Wu Opera troupe from China presented classic pieces including Lu Bu Tests the Horse, San Cha Kou, and Monkey King Battles the White Bone Demon. The performers’ polished singing and martial artistry earned warm applause from the audience.

Jiang Nan said the “Happy Chinese New Year” program has become an important platform for people-to-people exchange between China and Cambodia, expressing hopes that traditional opera can further strengthen mutual understanding and friendship. Phorsakna praised the unique appeal of Chinese traditional culture, noting that the performance offered Cambodian audiences valuable insight into Chinese heritage while promoting deeper cultural cooperation.

Organizers said around 500 guests from various sectors attended the show, enjoying the festive atmosphere and experiencing the charm of Chinese opera.
