According to reports from Cambodian media, Thai authorities recently issued a health alert after monitoring revealed that some fruit-eating bats in Thailand are carrying the Nipah virus, posing a potential public health risk. Health experts noted that the Nipah virus can be transmitted to humans through direct contact with infected animals or by consuming contaminated fruit. Infection may lead to severe respiratory illness and encephalitis, with a relatively high fatality rate. Authorities urged the public to avoid contact with wild bats and their droppings, and not to consume fruit that has been bitten by animals or fallen to the ground. Fruits should be thoroughly washed or peeled before consumption, and personal hygiene measures should be strengthened. The public is also advised to seek medical attention promptly if symptoms such as fever, headache, cough, or altered consciousness appear.
