Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has clarified public concerns regarding a rumored USD 1 billion membership fee, stressing that Cambodia will not be required to pay any fees after joining the U.S.-initiated “Peace Commission.”。 He further clarified that the widely cited USD 1 billion fee applies only to countries seeking long-term or permanent membership, which does not correspond to Cambodia’s current role. He said the claim was based on a misunderstanding. Hun Manet emphasized that Cambodia’s participation aims to demonstrate its commitment to global peace and international responsibility. Peacebuilding and opposition to conflict, he noted, have long been central to Cambodia’s foreign policy. Through United Nations peacekeeping missions, Cambodia has deployed personnel to several conflict-affected countries, contributing to international stability. He added that joining the Peace Commission as a founding member will help strengthen multilateral dialogue and international cooperation without placing any burden on national finances. Cambodia, he said, will continue to play a constructive role in international and regional affairs to promote peace, stability, and shared development.
